Building ‘Little KV’ Part 1

To provide a distraction so that I don’t have to line my Tralee & Dingle Hunslet just yet I decided to start a new loco project.

I mentioned in my previous post that I came back from Sri Lanka with some ideas for locos which at one time ran over there.  There are a few I want to build, but the easiest, and therefore the first that I’ll tackle, is one of a batch of 4-4-0Ts supplied to the Kelani Valley Railway by Hunslet in 1902.  Apparently they were known as the ‘Little KVs’, two of the class had a starring role in the film ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ where they were destroyed.  One still exists, but sadly I didn’t get to see it whilst there, hopefully when we return the new railway museum in Kandy should have been completed and it will be on display there.

I’m using the popular Parkside Dundas Welshpool & Llanfair ex-Sierra Leone Hunslet kit for the body components and the Liliput VL6 diesel for the chassis.  Hopefully this video should explain all.

I’ll add further updates once I’ve made progress on the body.
